Kiteboarding - The Extreme Water Sport

If you ever have craved for an extreme water sport that combines all the elements in one gig, then look no further. Kiteboarding has taken extreme sports to another level. Unlike other water-based sports that rely completely on waves for propulsion or even speedboats to drag them, kiteboarding relies on the strong winds and waves.  There is probably no other sport that can brag about that. And if you've seen kiteboarders on the beach, then you probably know what I am talking about.

Kiteboarding is a hybrid of different water sports like surfing, windsurfing and wake boarding. Put them all together and you get this adrenaline filled activity. The rider is pulled by the wind, and this enables anyone who's doing this to literally fly over the waves creating a long maximum hang time. And if that was not enough, the waves also play a key part in adding maneuvers and tricks to do while cruising on the water. But this sport isn't just limited to the water, as there are some individuals that use modified equipment for land. So the possibilities of this new sport are endless.

But before you try it out and go straight to the beach, I highly recommend that you learn all the basics needed for your own safety.  There are some people that immediately buy the equipment and disregard any suggestions on getting kite surfing lessons. And without a sold background and even a slight idea of how to control the kiteboard, they set out to the sea, confident that they could pull it. Of course, this is just a disaster waiting to happen, as they are unprepared to read weather conditions, manage waves and basically control their direction.

Learning the sport isn't a problem. There are a lot of qualified instructors that provide kite surfing lessons. Though some may charge prices differently and varies from coast to coast, most offer the same approach in order for a beginner to get started.  This method works best for those that have no idea on what kiteboarding is, and hiring a professional instructor can help you get started quicker than self-taught kiteboarders. You may even learn some tricks and secrets from an instructor.

Another option that you can look into is by researching through the internet, there are some sites that offer kite surfing lessons DVD and instructional books that give a complete background and the basics in kite boarding. Since most of us may not have the time to stay on the beach always, buying an instruction book on kite surfing lessons is the next best thing. Not only are you learning while you're at home or reading during lunch breaks at work, but also this certainly can supplement what you are learning from instructors.

And with a level of commitment in practicing and learning all the moves, you can be sure that by devoting a significant time in mastering all that the lessons required, the next time you show up on the beach you can take all your skills and show it to your friends.

Climbing

Climbing is when we use our hands and feet to move on the surface of a slant object. The slant object is usually a mountain or a rock. Rock climbing is by far the most popular climbing that people indulge in and enjoy intensely once they learn all the tricks.

Country Sports

Country sports consist of many outdoor games such as dog trailing, fishing, hunting, ferreting and shooting. Some exciting country sports are fox hunting, game shooting and fishing.

Cycling

Cycling is considered as the most enjoyable recreational activity. It does not provide extreme exercise to the rider but also allows the rider to sightsee while riding on the tracks. Mountain cycling is famous for its beautiful sights and systematic tracks.

Extreme outdoor sports:

Extreme outdoor sports include sky diving, base jumping, free running and bungee jumping. Not many people like to play these games because of the danger involved in them. Mostly do not like to jump of the cliffs even if they are tied with a rope as they are scared of heights. Free running can be only done by those who have a strong stamina of running for many miles without taking long breaks.

Is It A Sport, Is It A Plane, No It's Roller Hockey

Roller Hockey

The sport of hockey has many variations, including the Olympic sports of ice hockey and field hockey. Roller Hockey however, has also gained in popularity, as a recreational activity and as a competitive sport. It is an extremely fast sport, exciting for spectators to watch, and demanding a lot of skill.

There are two distinct disciplines within the sport, with their own equipment and rules. The original Roller Hockey is played, using traditional quad roller skates. When inline skates were invented, the new Inline Hockey evolved. Both sports are played in many countries but the US and Canada favor Inline Hockey. The different choice of skates results in a different skating style. There is more intricate footwork in Quad Hockey and it is easier for the players to maneuver. Inline Hockey contains more racing around and is similar to Ice Hockey action.

The goalies differ in that they use different gloves for each sport. Inline Hockey goalies use a catch glove, whereas Quad Hockey goalies block shots with a batting glove. Each of the Roller Hockey teams are made up of four skaters and a goalie. Inline Hockey, also known as Street Hockey, is played over two, 20 minute periods. Quad Hockey, sometimes referred to as Hardball Hockey, is played for an extra five minutes in each period.

Every sport wants Olympic status and Quad Hockey was a demonstration sport at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 1992. Many World Championships have taken place, with the Latin countries dominating. Portugal is the most successful country, winning 15 Quad Championships. Inline Hockey World Championships are rather more complicated as there are two different events each year. One is organized by the International Roller Sports Federation and the other is run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The United States and Canada are the traditional leaders in the sport but Inline Hockey is becoming more popular across Europe and Latin America.

Women have come to the sport too, becoming increasingly organized. Both Roller Hockey disciplines have structured competitions. Inline Hockey has had Women's World Championships since 2002 and women have competed on the world stage in Quad Hockey, since 1992. Again, the Quad Championships are dominated by Latin countries. Roller Hockey started as an amateur pastime, played on the streets and local rinks. Ice Hockey may still be the leading stick and puck sport, but the other versions are keen to catch up. Countries without a tradition of playing sport on ice have welcomed this type of hockey too.

Can You Really Make Money Betting on Sports?

Can you really make money betting on Sports? Although for the masses, the answer is a resounding "No", when you take heed to the following information, you'll be armed with a surefire sports betting system that will empower you with a 97~100% probability of winning your sports bets and leaving the masses way behind to suck up the dust after you make money betting on sports - even if you have absolutely no experience betting on sporting events right at this moment. So, by the time you finish reading this article, your answer will be a resounding "Yes, you really can make money betting on sports" when you get access to the right sports betting system...

Many Professional Gamblers actually make a good living betting on sports. However, such Pro Gamblers are quite a rare breed. Whether you're a pro, newbie, or somewhere in between, just like the casinos where the house absolutely rules, in when it comes to betting on sports, the odds are stacked in the bookie's or SportsBook's favor, NOT yours--unless you've got a surefire sports betting system to do the hard work for you plus enable you to make money betting on sports and avoid going to the proverbial "poor house", wherever that is...

Some of the biggest fallacies within the realm of sports gambling are that you've gotta be passionate and very knowledgeable about whatever sports you are placing bets on. Another fallacy is that betting on sports requires extensive research on your part. Perhaps that used to be true before a proven surefire system of placing sports bets that enables you to consistently win at a 97~100% accuracy level was invented by Cornell University graduate and sports enthusiast John Morrison, who earned his PhD in statistics.

But those do-it-yourself sports bet days are now a thing of the past! Since John is an extremely knowledgeable sports fanatic, you don't have to be so knowledgeable and fanatical about sports anymore in order to make money betting on sports! And of course research certainly has to be done - it's just that YOU no longer have to do it when you have a 97~100% accurate surefire Sports Betting System to do all that grunt research on your behalf...

Even if you place your sports bets according to John's proven surefire sports betting system, there is still one hard and fast rule that you should adhere to, which is to never bet more than 10% of your "bankroll" on any particular sports event. For newbies or beginners, your "bankroll" is the overall amount of money that you are comfortably willing to lose on all of your sports bets. As a prudent Sports Better, you should put considerable thought into setting your own bankroll and adhering to this 10% rule.

The only way to consistently make money betting on sports is to constantly pick the winners and minimize your losses on a consistent basis over an extended period of time. Now you can either spend countless years of trial and error devising and tweaking your own sports betting system, or you can use the proven surefire sports betting system meticulously developed by Professional Statistician and seasoned sports betting pro John Morrison.

The choice is yours, and the most amazing aspect of John's sports betting system is that some of the people who make money sports betting using his system have absolutely no interest whatsoever in sports--just in making money on a consistent basis, which is precisely what just some of those Successful First-Time Sports Bettors have done as you'll see when you see them up-close & personal and listen to what they have to say from the heart about how this system has vastly improved their lives and financial status.

Since this sports betting system is so accurate in terms of winning MLB, NBA, and NFL Picks and it's so revolutionary, it actually shifts the overriding question from "Can you really make money betting on sports?" to "Why not make money on 97~100% of your sports bets starting right this moment?" Now that you've got access the right system, just give it a shot and see for yourself that you really can make serious money betting on sports with this "Done For You" sports betting system - even without any prior sports betting experience @ all...

Extreme Wheelchair Sports

Wheelchair sports were first recognized in 1957, with the first Wheelchair Games taking place in New York City. Since then, the sport has evolved from wheelchair basketball and wheelchair soccer, to extreme sports that are utterly unpredictable. That is why Wheelchair Extreme Sports have earned such respect and are emerging as competitive sports that are to be taken seriously. The best thing about Wheelchair Extreme Sport is that it doesn't demand a crazy amount of media attention or ask to be recognized, but simply continues to make its mark by achieving incredible feats never believed to be possible.

The thrills of 4-wheel downhill mountain biking is mind-blowing. Its secret is a 4 wheeler's low centre of gravity and stability, which proves to be phenomenally useful on the bends. The scene is rife with "techno-weenies," who know all the ways in which to invent and re-invent faster 4-wheelers, guaranteed to show any gravel track what real speed feels like. The fitness of wheelchair athletes is remarkable, not to mention their outstanding upper body strength and relentless endurance on epic 4-wheel races. If "seeing is believing," is a phrase that applies to you, then the UK is where it's at. The recently founded, "Rough Riderz club," aims to promote downhill biking whether it's on 2 or 4 wheels and to create an all-inclusive sporting environment, because, let's get real - whether you're going to jet down a steep dirt track at a speed where only tunnel vision is possible, on 2 or 4 wheels, you're still pushing the limits of, "extreme," and that's what it's all about.

August 26 2010, was an unforgettable day for the wheelchair sports arena: Aaron Fotheringham completed the world's first-ever double backflip in a wheelchair. It was sick. The 18 year old from Las Vegas earned himself the nickname, "Wheels," because of his unrelenting passion for all things extreme. For athletes like Aaron, it's always about conquering a higher ramp and performing the ultimate power-slide while churning the maximum amount of adrenaline through his system. Wicked.

Extreme sports are the driving force behind the evolution of the sporting world because it's an environment that redefines and recreates itself over and over again. The disabled mobility sports arena is doing just that - defying physical limitations, staring danger in the face, and saying, "bring it on." Although Wheelchair Extreme Sports haven't emerged as prominently in South Africa, as in Europe and the USA, I hear that the adrenaline-bug travels fast. So watch this space...

How Do You Decide That A Particular Sport Is An Extreme Sport?

What are the determining factors in naming a sport extreme? There are many sports considered to be extreme sports today but how did they become to be known as such? Some came from seemingly benign beginnings and have evolved to more dangerous sports. The addiction to these sports it seems comes from the associated adrenaline rush that comes from the participation in them. Let's look at some examples of extreme sports.

Skateboarding is considered the best known of extreme sports and was actually started in the sixties by bored surfers looking for a way to get exercise and cross train when the surf wasn't up. The sport took on a life of its own and soon national competitions were being held bringing the cult sport into mainstream America. From its humble beginnings the sport has now garnered worldwide attention.

The cold weather sister to skateboarding is snow boarding which takes the same movements and more onto the snow. This extreme sport has really caught fire today and in the last winter Olympics the snowboarding events were among the most popular. As its popularity has grown many resorts have added specialized snowboard trails and trick spots.

The sport that takes biking to the extreme is BMX biking. There are a couple of different versions of this sport with one being like traditional racing with dirt jumps and obstacles. Freestyle BMX is more closely related to skateboarding as they use the same courses as the skateboarders use and perform tricks on their bikes.

Have you seen the skiers that do all the crazy tricks and flips coming off of ramps on the slopes? This is freestyle skiing and is one of the most popular of the winter extreme sports. Like snowboarding, this sport has its own tricks and its own language.

An extreme sport mainly for the more mature of participants has recently evolved to be called sport climbing. With sport climbing there are preset handgrips and a designated course to climb with the goal to prove one's strength and athletic ability.

Ever felt the urge to jump out of an airplane? Most people don't, but still this has become a very popular sport that gives an enormous adrenaline rush from the initial jump. Parachuting teams work together to form shapes and perform choreographed aerial maneuvers while freefalling.

There is no doubt that as our culture seeks new ways to create excitement there will be new extreme sports introduced that may prove to be just as popular as the ones we see now.

Kitesurfing - What's Next in Extreme Water Sports

Water sports have always defied gravity and conventional wisdom with their extreme nature. With waterskiing, wakeboarding, surfing and windsurfing, water sports enthusiasts have no shortage of sports to try and master. Enter kitesurfing.

Kitesurfing has been added to the growing list of Port Angeles water sports and is the newest one to try. Kitesurfing is akin to wakeboarding or surfing, but it involves using a directional board in combination with a large wind-powered kite that pulls you over the water. If kitesurfing sounds like something you'd like to try, consider this information first.

To begin kitesurfing costs about $2,000 to purchase the equipment needed. It is a good idea to rent some and try it first to see if it is something that you enjoy. Once you've got the equipment, it is advisable to hire an instructor before you try and set out on your own. An instructor can give you valuable tips on how to work the kite and board simultaneously, something that may be hard to learn from a written source. If you try and learn on your own, remember that unsupervised kitesurfing, especially in the ocean, can be potentially dangerous, and to always bring a spotter or a friend along with you.

Remember that there are different levels of kites for different levels of riders. The best way to find the right kite for you is to experiment with rental equipment until you find a kite that works best for you and you have the best feel for.

Guide To Buying Extreme Sports Insurance

Whether you're planning to enjoy some time in Australia or travel abroad, you might be considering an extreme sport. Let's be clear, extreme sports are fun, and while many people will avoid them, there are the brave few that love the idea of climbing a mountain or perhaps rafting down the mighty river. There are even those that would jump from an airplane, plummeting toward the ground at unimaginable speeds.

Boating, rafting, skiing, cliff-diving, all of these are great examples of extreme sports, and if you wish to try them out, then you will more than likely need to find yourself a decent insurance policy. That being said, now would be a great time for you to seek out the right policy, and by that we mean one that fits your particular routine.

The first question you might ask about this insurance is whether or not you should insure yourself annually. This is actually a tough question, and it really depends on how often you partake in extreme sports. Extreme sports insurance can be expensive due to the nature of these activities. In fact, sports insurance in general can run quite high in most cases, and when you take out your policy you should not only look at the frequency of your outdoor excursions but also the types of sports you participate in.

You will obviously pay more depending on the sport, for instance rock climbing might be considered more dangerous than white water rafting. In addition to that you should take a look at the different additions to sports insurance policies. For instance you might want to see if there is any type of income protection, life insurance, or trauma/crisis coverage. This will definitely help you out no matter where you happen to be, but if you plan to travel outside of your area, you may want to look into travel insurance of some type.

Most companies that provide extreme sports insurance will also provide travel insurance. This will permit you to go anywhere in the world so long as you let the company know where you will be. Take note that you should always examine your sports insurance policy carefully and ensure that your travel insurance permits for extreme sporting events.

Life insurance is yet another important aspect of extreme sporting. While you will benefit greatly from standard insurance, life insurance will take care of your family and your funeral expenses in the event you should suffer a fatality. Extreme sports are not for the faint of heart and we must accept the fact that some of us may not return. That being said, now is the time for you to find the insurance policy you need from a company that you can trust.

Big Air Equals Big Thrills With This New Extreme Water Sport

Kiteboarding or kitesurfing, if you don't already know, is like snowboarding on water. This, behind a boat, is called wakeboarding. OK, now forget the boat and add a giant kite for the power source. The kite is controlled or steered using a control bar in the hands of the rider. The kite can be flown is specific patterns to generate greater power, or can be used to jump or fly through the air. We are not talking about little hops either; you can really get up and float for some serious air time. The power is directed to a harness by "hooking in"; this takes the load off the arms which helps reduce fatigue.

Kiteboarding is the fastest growing water sport in the world, and for good reasons.

The freedom of jumping 10, 20, 30ft off the water, without the necessity of a wave for a ramp, means that people who live near lakes can still fly through the air. Snowboarders love it as a summer alternative to riding on snow, not to mention there's no lift ticket to buy. Windsurfers love it because you can kiteboard in less wind, and the gear fits in a economy car, instead of the truck, or trailer. Surfers can get out on the water when the surf is too low or blown out. Wake boarders are forced to rethink what big air really is, plus saving all the gas money they were putting into their boats every weekend. People who have never tried a board sport at all are getting into kiteboarding.

Ideal learning conditions include warm, flat and shallow water coupled with consistent wind. Being able to stand up after a gulp of water or a head first plunge is not only convenient but comforting. Having a boat right there where you need it saves time, as the beginner will end the kite surfing lesson far down wind from where he or she started.

Taking kiteboarding lessons with a qualified instructor is a must. The best thing to do first is to buy or rent a trainer kite, and watch an instructional video to get the basics down. Next, is the first three hour kiteboarding lesson, in which you will learn the safety issues and systems, setup of the kite, launching and landing, the wind window and power stokes, water re-launching and body dragging. From there you can continue with lessons or go practice on your own. The cost of equipment has come down over the years; a beginner setup will run $1000-$1500 for everything. Unlike many sports, such as snow

Skiing, kiteboarding is not something you should expect to be able to learn in an afternoon. Once you get it, you'll be hooked.

How To Get Your Body Ready For The Extreme Winter Sports

In the winter there so many things that you can do instead of just sitting around at home doing nothing. You can go snowboarding go skiing and do many other winter sports.

As you are getting your body ready for winter sports you will want to take an honest test to yourself and ask yourself how good of shape are you really in. then you just need to start running and getting ready for the winter sports because in the end when time comes for you to start your winter sport you may not even be in good enough shape to compete.

Before your winter sport even starts you will want to be able to at least walk or run for 30 minutes out in the cold winter. If you cannot do just that then you will never be ready for your winter sport. Many people can go sit in their houses all winter without doing one exercise and still be able to go do their winter sport and that is just because they are used to that routine. They probably do some type of exercise in the house where its warm instead of getting out in the cold and working out.

After you have gotten yourself into some what of good shape for your winter sports you will need to start getting your heart rate up so you can burn fat and gain muscle. You will want to be able to do at least 15 minutes of some aerobic before you start your winter sports.

You do want to take the time to congratulate yourself but you do not want to overdue it by going out drinking and getting those calories back in your body. You want to just have a nice good dinner and get good nights sleep so that you can start your routine over again the following day. If you don't do this then you will be stuck in the body your in now and you won't do so good in your winter sport.

You might have a specific winter sport that you compete in every winter. If you don't have the body for it then you're not going to be competing in anything but competing against yourself to get off the couch.

Basically for all winter sports you are going to need to get up and do something to get your heart rate up so that you can get your legs ready for the sport you are doing since in winter sports you use your legs a lot. If your legs are not in the shape in which they should be then you shouldn't even be thinking about competing until next year when you are in good shape and so you can compete. If you think and feel that you are good shape then that is good and you should be able to compete but many people feel the same way and often struggle so be sure to get out and exercise before your sports starts.

Lifesaving Safety Tips For Water Sports Enthusiasts

Tips to Insure a Safe Fun Time with Water Sports and Boats!

Water sports are very popular amongst athletes and non-athletes alike especially in the hot days of summer. After all, any of the water sports is an excellent way to keep cool and look cool, stay active and tanned as well as get your exercise and its health benefits.

However, water sports can be dangerous, too. Reports of drowning and other water-related accidents worry us and yet we still fail to adopt certain safety guidelines to avoid becoming the next victims. Well, if you want your family and friends to be safe at all times while engaging in water sports while having fun, it pays to take heed of the following safety tips.

Be a Strong Swimmer

In any water sport, it is important to be a strong swimmer. At the very least, you will be able to swim to shore or to avoid moving objects on the water such as boats. Likewise, you must ensure that the other participants in the sports are also strong swimmers not only because it is a competition where the strongest have the highest chances of winning but also because lives are at stake here.

Wear a Life Vest

Many drowning deaths in the open seas have been attributed to the failure to wear life vests. Even if you consider yourself a good swimmer, life vests are de rigueur in case you lose consciousness or get tired from floating on your own. And remember that not just any toy flotation device will do for the purpose.

Learn CPR

Do not rely on the lifeguards and other medical personnel to come on time to save the life of a family member or a friend. YOU must learn how to administer CPR at the soonest possible time because mere seconds can mean the difference between life and death.

Your local college, hospital and Red Cross branch offer CPR classes so take advantage of them.
Avoid Alcohol and Drugs

Alcohol and drugs will never ever mix with water sports. Both substances have adverse effects on your mind and body, not least of which is slower reaction time, lesser focus and, worst, unconsciousness.

If you must take alcohol, do so after the competition is over so that you are in no danger of drowning. Well, of course, you will be in danger of alcohol-related traffic accidents so you are better off staying away from it.
Stay in Designated Areas

Of course, one of the thrills of extreme water sports is facing death in the eyes and living to tell the tale. However, if you want another shot at that heart-pumping move, then do try to stay within the designated area of the competition.

For individuals who are swimming in the open seas, this tip is very important especially when strong currents and waves are present.

Know the Safety Rules of the Sport

Each sport has its own safety guidelines and equipment. It pays to become familiar with them and then take heed.

For example, if your sport says that you have wear shoes and a helmet like wake skating, then do so. Better yet, you should undergo sufficient training before hitting the competition circuit.
Indeed, water sports accidents, injuries and deaths can be significantly reduced if only we know how to engage in them as safely as possible.

Whitney is a lover of all water sports and participates in many wakeboard and wake skate competitions, in Louisiana, United States.

The Most Extreme Professional Sport

Football, basketball, boxing and baseball were the sports I faithfully participated in as a kid through adulthood. I was fortunate enough to compete in football and boxing at the professional level. Other activities such as wrestling, track, handball, racquetball and lacrosse were used to sharpen me up for football and boxing. Each of these compliment the other to enhance skills and increase your talent. You can never be too good in any sport and someone will be there to overtake you when you ease up. You can take that to the bank with you.

Hockey wasn't a sport many individuals were interested in when I was growing up. There were no known rinks I knew of in New York City where I was located and the local sports heroes came from baseball, basketball and football in that order. Even while at college in the early 1970's I had no interest in watching hockey. I learned more about the sport during college because students from Buffalo loved the Sabres and in the first televised superstars a hockey player participated by the name of Rod Gilbert. The fact that his physique was of ordinary stature and he didn't fare very well in the different competitions failed to pique my interest for mayhem on the ice.

All of this changed in 1983 when I became a New York City firefighter. My firehouse was situated in Coney Island and I watched the engine compete against the truck at the Abe Stark rink. Though none of the individuals competing were fantastic skaters I had new found respect for the skill it takes to speed along the ice on blades I have trouble standing up on and fire a rock like piece of rubber into a goal. While attempting this feat you have individuals trying to dislodge you from the ice at incredibly fast speed. I began to follow the sport as I still continued my boxing career. Wayne Gretzsky scoring 92 goals in one season is a sporting record that will never be broken. It was 100 if you count the playoffs and the numerous records he owns far outweigh any other major professional athlete.

When you watch a hockey game up close there is nothing else like it. I always thought the live fights was the greatest thrill until I went to a professional hockey game. They are moving on their skates at an average 13 miles per hour and slap shots average 100 miles per hour. The hitting is brutal and you are afforded less protection than a professional football player. The majority of hockey players are minus some teeth because of the contact from pucks and fists since fights are common after a brutal hit while traveling at break neck speed. The way the athletes can stop and go while changing direction while carry a lethal weapon (the stick) is both incredible and thrilling. Blocking the puck with your body is another art form left for only individuals containing the strongest of wills. Elbows, high sticks, cross checks in the back and pucks and gloves in the face make this sport only for the toughest of the tough.

Boxing and football are great and test the strength and desire of every athlete but I must be honest and declare hockey as most extreme out of the major sports I have competed in and studied. It is not a game for the weak of heart but one where only the strong compete.

Why Kids Are Crazy About Extreme Sports

Extreme Sports are the latest craze in our culture and kids as young as four and five years old are fascinated with it. As a parent of a 16 year old who has been skateboarding and surfing since he was seven, I can tell you that it does make you nervous when they do the crazy tricks. Some people hate extreme sports and some people think they are a blessing, let's take a closer look.

The positive side of kids being involved in extreme sports in that they are out getting exercise and the television in your living room is starting to collect dust, plus your electric bill is lower. You have probably been hoping for this to happen for awhile but you aren't sure about the choice of sports. Although skateboarding is probably the first of the extreme sports, it is only the beginning. Some of the others that kids are really getting into these days include BMX biking and trickblading.

BMX bikes are like a regular bike on steroids, they are built heavy and tough to be able to take the punishment of all the jumps and tricks, plus they have special pegs for the feet and padding to protect the biker where they are most likely to come in contact with the bike. These bikes are designed mainly for tricks and racing and are mostly used on dirt tracks and courses.

Trickbladers use the same parks as skateboarders and wear specially designed roller blades with smaller thicker wheels and have an added feature called a grind plate to help them do tricks like sliding down rails. I know, it makes my skin crawl just thinking about it! The idea is to be able to do a lot of the same tricks performed by skateboarders.

Skateboarding is thought of as the original extreme sport beginning in the 1960s when surfers put wheels on short boards to give them a way to cross train when the surf wasn't up. These early skateboarders are probably amazed at the way the sport has developed with the huge half pipes and long rails that you see skateboarders riding today. It just makes me cringe to watch as they slide down a handrail while standing on a skateboard but incredibly my son has done it for over nine years and never broken a bone.

If you are like me, the first time that you watch your child go sailing through the air on a jump or paddling out in eight foot surf you will feel like your heart is going to pound out of your chest and you will be cringing every time they fall but as long as they have the right safety gear and are always with a buddy they will be fine, injuries are far more common in traditional sports. Encourage your kids, these days it's hard to get them to like anything.
